Questions & answers
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about what LIAM does, what it costs, and what happens to your data — in Canada and the United States.
The essentials
What is LIAM?
LIAM is an AI financial assistant for people in Canada and the United States. It brings your accounts together, measures the cash you can actually use, and simulates any purchase or decision against your goals before you commit. It was built in Montréal by a financial advisor and works on the web and on iPhone.
Is LIAM available in the United States?
Yes. LIAM is built for Canadian and American residents. It knows each country’s accounts — TFSA, RRSP and FHSA in Canada; 401(k), IRA and HSA in the U.S. — and bills you in your own currency.
How is LIAM different from a budgeting app?
A budgeting app tells you what you already spent. LIAM looks forward: before you spend, it shows what the decision does to your safety buffer and your goals, and suggests the option that hurts your plan least.
How much does LIAM cost?
Starter is $14.99 CAD a month in Canada ($9.99 USD in the U.S.) and Pro is $39.99 CAD a month ($29.99 USD in the U.S.), with a 14-day free trial on your first subscription. Cancel before the trial ends and you pay nothing. There is no free plan; extra AI credits can be bought as one-time packs.
Does LIAM replace a financial advisor?
No. LIAM handles the everyday decisions between meetings. It is not a licensed advisor and gives educational information only. When a decision involves choosing investment products, or goes further, you can book a video meeting with an advisor or expert from the app.
Can I use LIAM in French?
Yes. The whole product — the assistant, the app, support and our legal texts — works in English and in French. Switch languages at any time.
Getting started
How do I get started?
Create your account at liamagent.com — or in the iPhone app in Canada — then upload a bank statement, connect a bank, add accounts by hand, or simply start asking questions. Most people see their financial picture within a couple of minutes.
Do I need to connect my bank account?
No. Connecting a bank through Plaid is optional and read-only. You can upload statements (PDF, CSV or images), add accounts by hand, or use the assistant without connecting anything.
What documents can I upload?
PDF, CSV, JPG, PNG and WEBP: bank statements, pay stubs, credit reports, investment summaries, tax documents and receipts. They are read to extract your figures, and reach our AI provider only with your permission.
Is there an iPhone app?
Yes — Liam Finance is on the App Store in Canada. In the United States it is coming soon; until then everything works on the web at liamagent.com, on any phone or computer.
Privacy & security
Is my financial data safe?
LIAM has read-only access and can never move money. Data is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS in transit, row-level security keeps each account to its own data, and two-factor authentication is available. Bank connections go through Plaid: LIAM never sees your bank password. You can export or delete everything at any time.
Does LIAM sell my data?
Never. We do not sell or rent your data, show no ads, and share nothing for marketing. The only companies that process it are the ones that make the service work — listed by name in our Privacy Policy — and the advisor or expert you contact, for that request only.
Who can see my data?
You. An advisor or expert sees your name, your message and a summary of your situation only when you write to them or book a meeting, and only for that request. LIAM staff do not browse your finances: access is limited to running and securing the service, or helping you when you ask.
Is my data used to train AI?
No. Your data is never used to train, fine-tune or improve AI models — ours or our AI provider’s. It is used only to give you your own analysis.
What happens if I delete my account?
Deletion is immediate (Settings → Data & Account): we revoke bank connections, cancel your web subscription and permanently delete your account and its data. Encrypted backups at our providers are overwritten on their normal rotation. A subscription bought in the iPhone app is managed by Apple — cancel it in your Apple account so you are not billed again.
AI & accuracy
How accurate is LIAM?
The figures come from deterministic calculation engines, not from the AI, so the math is exact for the data you give it. The more complete your data, the more complete the picture; when something is missing, LIAM says so rather than guessing.
Which AI model does LIAM use?
Claude, by Anthropic. The AI understands your questions and explains the results in plain language; the numbers themselves are computed by deterministic engines.
Can LIAM make mistakes?
Yes — like any AI, it can misread a document or phrase something imperfectly. That is why calculations never rely on the AI, why every suggestion waits for your decision, and why decisions that call for regulated advice go to a human advisor or expert.
Features
What is the purchase simulator?
Enter a purchase and LIAM compares three scenarios — pay cash now, wait six weeks, or finance over 24 months — showing the effect of each on your savings, your credit and your goals.
What is Autopilot?
Autopilot watches your finances and proposes actions — moving money to savings when your pay arrives, for example. Every proposal waits for your approval, and LIAM cannot move money itself: you carry out the action at your bank.
What is Strategy?
Your long-term plan. LIAM reads your whole financial picture and builds a roadmap with prioritized actions, a risk assessment and progress tracking.
Can LIAM help me improve my credit score?
Yes. Upload your credit report and LIAM identifies what weighs on your score, the quickest gains, and concrete steps to improve it over time.
Does LIAM understand registered and retirement accounts?
Yes. In Canada: TFSA, RRSP, FHSA and RESP. In the United States: 401(k), IRA, Roth IRA, HSA and 529. LIAM uses them in your plan and explains contribution room and tax effects in general terms.
How do meetings with an advisor or expert work?
From the Meetings tab in the app, request a video meeting or write to an advisor or expert. They are independent professionals; whether one may advise you depends on their registration where you live, and they tell you before giving advice. Your summary is shared only for that request.
Plans & billing
How does the free trial work?
14 days free on any plan, for your first subscription. Your card is saved at signup but nothing is charged until the trial ends, and we remind you 1 day before your first charge. If you subscribed before, a new subscription is billed right away.
Which currency will I pay in?
On the web you pay in Canadian dollars in Canada and in U.S. dollars in the United States, through Stripe. In the iPhone app, Apple charges in your App Store country’s currency. Taxes are added where required.
How do I change plans?
On the web, go to Settings › Plans; in the iPhone app, open the Plans screen. You can upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time.
How do I cancel?
On the web: Settings › Plans, then Cancel — no call or email needed, and you keep access until the end of the period you paid for. For a subscription bought in the iPhone app: iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions, since Apple manages it.
Do you offer refunds?
Partial periods are not refunded, except where consumer law gives you that right — in Québec, the other provinces and U.S. states alike. Purchases made in the App Store are refunded by Apple, under its own rules.
Which payment methods do you accept?
On the web, Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit and debit cards, processed securely by Stripe — we never see your full card number. In the iPhone app, the payment method on your Apple ID.
